4 Days / 3 Nights For this encounter we have chosen Gunung Pangrango and Gunung Gede in West Java, a three hour ride from Jakarta. Both peaks belong to the same volcano. Pangrango (3019m) is completely extinguished, while Gede (2958m) is still active. There are constantly fumes coming out of the crater and there is a distinct sulfur smell when standing on the crater rim.

Although it will be a 4D/3N programme, the hike itself will be a 2D/1N event. Pick-up at Jakarta airport will be arranged before noon and we will be transported to Gunung Mas for an exciting optional activity: tandem paragliding. We'll continue our journey after that to Gede-Pangrango National Park were dinner will be served and you will receive a briefing for the coming hike. The next morning the real adventure begins and we start hiking at 6:30am. We'll take the Cibodas gate which will bring us to the blue lake, the waterfalls, the hotsprings and Kandang Badak, the saddle between Pangrango and Gede. That's where the tents will be erected and we will spend the night. However, before that we'll climb Pangrango in the afternoon and spend some time at Mandalawangi edelweiss meadow which is located just below the top at the other side. We will be back at the campsite for dinner. The following day our summit attack for Gede will start at 3:00am so we will reach the rim of the crater before sunrise. We'll descend towards the Alun Alun Suryakencana edelweiss meadow for breakfast and if we're lucky we can enjoy a second sunrise over there... After breakfast we will descend Gede from the other side towards Gunung Putri. From there on we hike through local settlements, farmland and the Cibodas botanical garden back to the guesthouse. The next day, after breakfast, we will be transported back to Jakarta airport and we will be heading for KL again enriched with yet another unforgettable experience. In fact almost all you need is included in this package: transportation from and to Jakarta Airport inclusive of highway toll, accommodation in guest house, camping equipment (tent, mats, sleeping bag, lighting), cooking and dining equipment, meals (from lunch on day 1 till breakfast on day 4), mountain guide, porter fees, climbing permit and entrance fees, certificate of participation (signed by the Chief Ranger and Alex) and photo CD. What's not included? Air ticket, airport tax, insurance, paragliding fee, personal expenses such as extra meals and drinks, telephone call, laundry, etc. Itinerary Day 1: • Arrival at Jakarta Airport by morning flight • Transfer to Cibodas • Optional activity: tandem paragliding • Stay at guesthouse Day 2: • 6:30am start hike to Kandang Badak campsite • 1:00pm hike to Pangrango Peak and then down to Mandalawangi Meadow • 5:00pm back in Kandang Badak and camp overnight.
