4 Days / 3 Nights or 5D/4NWith its 4,095 m altitude Mount Kinabalu is the highest mountain of Malaysia. For this hike we opted to follow the Mesilau trail whose starting point is slightly higher in elevation than the Timpohon Gate, but crosses a ridge, adding about two kilometres to the ascent and making the total elevation gain slightly higher. The two trails meet about two kilometres before Laban Rata.
Important Mount Kinabalu is not located on the Malaysian peninsular. This is a hike in East-Malaysia and requires a transfer by air. Hikes on requestIf you have a certain destination or target in mind, do contact us and we will work out the perfect hike for you or your group.
After arriving at the airport, first we will have lunch in Kota Kinabalu. Then we will be transferred to Kinabalu National Park. During the ride, which will take at least two to three hours, we will pass several villages and cross the beautiful valleys of the Crocker Range. Upon arrival at the National Park we will register ourselves for the upcoming climb. Next our journey continues to Mesilau Nature Resort where we will have dinner and stay overnight in the resthouse. The second day, after breakfast, we will head for the Mesilau Gate where our climb to the summit of Malaysia's highest mountain starts. Compared to the Timphon trail, the Mesilau trail offers more variation from oak and chestnut trees to mossy vegetation and eventually we reach a pure alpine type of environment. This 4 to 5 hour climb will bring us to Laban Rata where we will have dinner and stay overnight in one of the mountain huts. The next morning, after early supper, we head for the summit at 2:00am and hopefully get the chance to witness the sunrise above Borneo. After summiting, we'll descend back to Laban Rata for breakfast. After checking out we continue our descent towards the Timpohon Gate. Upon arrival, we will be transferred to Kinabalu Park Headquarters for reporting and to collect our certificates. Late lunch will be served in Kinabalu Park. After lunch we’ll have transport to Kundasang where we will have a well-deserved dinner, rest and sleep. The fourth day, after breakfast, we will be transferred to Poring Hot Springs to relax the (sore) muscles. We’ll have lunch on the way back and will reach the airport late in the afternoon/early evening. In fact almost all you need is included in this package: transportation from and to Kota Kinabalu Airport and Poring Hot Springs, car transfers, accommodation in hotel, resthouse and mountain hut dormitory, meals (from lunch on day 1 till lunch on day 4), mountain guide, moutain climbing insurance, climbing permit and entrance fees, certificates of participation and photo CD. Our package is ALL inclusive between airport arrival and airport departure, even dinner and hotel stay after we return from the climb. What's not included? Air ticket, airport tax, insurance (except mountain climbing insurance), participation fee for Via Ferrata, dinner on day 4, personal expenses such as extra meals and drinks, private porter, telephone call, laundry, etc. Optional: Via FerrataIf you’re interested in coming down Mount Kinabalu using the world’s highest Via Ferrata, here’s your chance! Please note that Via Ferrata is not for you if you’re scared of heights... Also a very good physical condition is a prerequisite. Therefore if you won’t reach Laban Rata on the first day of the climb before 4:00pm, you won’t be allowed to participate. Of course you will still be able to go for the summit attack the next morning, but you will have to come down the normal way. Via Ferrata has a shorter/easier parcours and a longer/more challenging one. Need more info?
